The Lexus Eco Challenge is a nationwide
competition that is sponsored by Lexus and Scholastic.

A team of students led by a
teacher/advisor can enter in 1 of 3 categories. The three
categories are air and climate, water, and land.

The students develop an action plan.
The action plan is broken down into four parts.
1.
What’s the environmental issue?
2.
What is our plan of action?
3.
How did we implement our ideas: our plan in action?
4.
What are the results of our plan in action.

On December 12th, we will send in our action
plan, our collected data, and supporting documents (pictures, newspaper
articles, webpage, etc. . .).

A panel of judges will grade what we submit
and will select a winner in each category.

The prizes are as follows: Sixteen prize
winning teams consisting of two middle school teams in each of four
Lexus market regions-Eastern, Southern, Central, and Western as
shown on the attached map (the
"Four Lexus Market Regions") AND
two high school teams in each of the Four Lexus Market Regions will
each receive a $10,000 prize. The $10,000 prize is to be distributed
as follows: $1,000 grant awarded directly to the Teacher Advisor for
to be used toward purchasing school-related supplies and/or
supporting educational programs/school clubs or initiatives, $7,000
to be evenly distributed among the Team members in the form of
checks made payable to the parent or legal guardian of each Student
who was part of the winning Team, and $2,000 to the winning team's
school. The sixteen winning Teams will also be invited to compete in
the Final Challenge

From the final challenge Two Grand Prize
winning Teams, consisting of one middle school Team AND one high
school Team, will each receive $50,000. The $50,000 prize is to be
distributed as follows: $10,000 to the winning team's school, $5,000
grant awarded directly to the Teacher Advisor for to be used toward
purchasing school-related supplies and/or supporting educational
programs/school clubs or initiatives, and $35,000 in scholarships to
be evenly distributed among all the Students who were part of the
winning Team.
